Spain's star winemaker Álvaro Palacios, together with his nephew Ricardo, has created an outstanding Mencía-based red wine in Bierzo. It is as silky and smooth as its name, Pétalos, which means "petals" in Spanish. The bouquet envelops the nose with notes of ripe raspberries, thyme, and vanilla. On the palate, it is juicy, silky, and full of wild berry flavors. Pétalos charmingly and accessibly introduces wine lovers to the world of Bierzo wines, offering excellent value for money. It is made up of over 90% Mencía, with the remainder consisting of red and white indigenous grape varieties, some with whimsical names like Pan y Carne (Bread and Meat), Negreda, Godello, Valenciana, and several others. The vineyards are located in various municipalities, and the vines are between 40 and 90 years old.
