La Mata 2019, 75 cl

La Mata is made from over 90% old to very old, ungrafted Tempranillo vines, growing at altitudes of 950 to 1000 meters, some over 130 years old. A small percentage of white Albillo and juicy red Alicante Bouschet complements the complex structure. The extreme altitude imparts a distinctive wildness, cool freshness, and pronounced minerality to the wine, while aging in new oak barrels adds depth and elegance. The nose is spicy and black-fruited, with delicate smoky notes. On the palate, it is dense and powerful, with aromas of black cherries, black olives, and a hint of tobacco. The long, smooth finish underscores the wine's tremendous personality. A wine that, through its structure and freshness, defies classic Ribera del Duero expectations, yet remains wonderfully harmonious. Perfect with braised meats, grilled vegetables with Mediterranean herbs, or game birds.
