El Carretil 2019, 75 cl

The 3.64-hectare single vineyard El Carretil, located in the medieval town of Laguardia in the Basque Country, part of the Álava province in the Rioja region, is the foundation for this great wine made from Tempranillo vines, some of which are over 90 years old. The nose is dominated by intense notes of red berries, a hint of licorice, and delicate nuances from barrel aging. On the palate, it lives up to the promise of the nose; it has energy, juiciness, and volume, yet it doesn't feel heavy and offers a lovely freshness. The poor clay soils with a high limestone content impart a mineral aroma to El Carretil, and its fine, well-integrated tannins round out this majestic wine. It has great aging potential!
