Brig O'Perth 14 years Special Anniversary Blend
CHF89.00
We are delighted to announce the (re)launch of one of Perthshire's original 'grocer's blends', BRIG O' PERTH. First produced in 1896 by Matthew Gloag Son, this blended Scotch whisky was crafted in the 'Old Highland' style and described by The Lancet in 1897 as 'desirably round and mellow in taste'. To celebrate its 125th anniversary (December 2021), we have released this 14-year-old 'Special Anniversary Blend', made from several of the Highland malts that were also on Gloag's shopping lists, including Ben Nevis and Blair Athol. The malt content is unusually high (over 50%), the strength is a robust 46.7% ABV, and the spirit is non-chill filtered, thus preserving its weighty texture and silky-smooth mouthfeel. On the nose: Sweet notes dominate – toffee popcorn, milk cereal, choux pastry, crystallized ginger, bitter orange marmalade. On the palate, it delivers exactly what the nose promises – the sweetness of toffee apples, frozen cereal flakes, heather honey, warm ginger spice. Chocolate orange and exotic tea leaves. The finish is as warming as it is sweet, with notes of powdered sugar and white pepper. The higher alcohol content provides a pleasant spiciness, while the weight and texture are unusual for a blended Scotch. The result of unchilled filtration leaves a long and lingering mouthfeel.
